Sam and Sam’s Wedding in East Sussex – 14.06.19

Sam and Sam decided to hold their wedding in East Sussex at Hendall, despite, at the time of booking their wedding, living a good two and a half hours away in Buckinghamshire.

Now a more local, Surrey couple, we really enjoyed working with them to create their special wedding day here.

The Preparations

Sam, her Mum and her Bridesmaids were booked to stay in our on-site Bridal Accommodation, The Barn, and they arrived the day before the wedding to check in and have a brief wedding rehearsal in the Stone Barn. Once settled, the girls enjoyed a lovely ladies dinner with each other to raise a glass to Sam’s last night as a Miss!

A rather early start was the first order of the day for the ladies in The Barn, who had bridal hair supplier, Julia Marsh and bridal make up supplier, Charlotte Olivia, arriving before six thirty AM to begin their wedding beauty treatments.

Charlotte Olivia has been here previously this year as the make up artist who was booked by our first wedding couple of 2019, Adele and Steve. It was a real pleasure for us to welcome her back to Hendall once more.

Julia Marsh was new to us. Whilst it’s always lovely to see our regular suppliers, meeting new suppliers for the first time and showing them our wonderful setting here in the Sussex countryside, makes a nice change and is useful tool for getting the Hendall name out there.

The Dress (oh, and the suits!)

Sam’s wedding dress was designed by Made with Love, an online wedding boutique store based in Australia. They create beautiful, affordable wedding dresses and veils and deliver them worldwide. Sam looked very attractive; a calm, assured bride with an elegant, floating veil accompanying her fitted gown.

The boys wore navy blue suits, with fantastically floral ties and brown brogues. Simple white buttonholes completed their look; very dapper and fitting.

Personal Touches

As Sam (Groom) is a Yorkshire lad, the Hendall flag pole was adorned with a Yorkshire Flag which guests saw flying proudly outside the main entrance to the Barn as they arrived.

They were also treated to Yorkshire puddings with their starter of chicken liver parfait and caramelised onion chutney; an unusual accompaniment but they had to include them, surely?!

Just because they held their wedding in East Sussex, didn’t mean they couldn’t pay homage to their Yorkshire friends and family!

The couple designed their own orders of service for each guest for their ceremony and created personalised menus for the tables too. We love it when our couples tie in all their wedding stationery.

The saying goes that when you pay attention to the detail, the big picture will look after itself. Hmm…I bet all our couples wonder “if only weddings were that straightforward!”

The Ceremony

Their wedding ceremony was conducted by the Crowborough Registrars, by whom Hendall is licensed to hold civil ceremonies. Sam and Sam had chosen acoustic duo, The Duplettes (aka Anna and Jim) to play for them during the ceremony proceedings. This dynamic duo were a wonderful addition to the ceremony and worked very well in the Stone Barn with its fantastic acoustics.

The guests were invited to sing along during the ceremony to two carefully chosen songs; the first, Ben E King’s fantastic ‘Stand by Me’ and the second, Tom Jones’ ‘It’s not Unusual’.

In addition to the songs, there were also two readings by a couple of their friends. We really do enjoy it when our couples embellish their ceremony; it’s such a great way of personalising the day!

The Food, Flowers, Photos, Cake and more…

Jessica Jill was the appointed wedding photographer and, along with her second shooter, Jade – were another two new faces for 2019. They were both a delight for us to work alongside for Sam and Sam’s big day! They discreetly clicked away throughout the day; we really can’t wait to see more of these fabulous images as we bet there are some really special moments they have cleverly captured.

The florist was Zellie of The Homegrown Flower Company. Zellie is one of our recommended suppliers and rather more unique in that she grows all of her own flowers on her flower farm, situated a short distance from Hendall, in Mayfied, East Sussex. A perfect way to keep it local and enhance and enrich any wedding in East Sussex.

jessicajillphotography

She specialises in creating natural, garden-inspired arrangements and her flowers are also available to buy fresh from the field, by the bucket, for DIY arranging. Sam and Sam opted for a mixture of DIY flower arranging and appointing Zellie in a more formal capacity to create their bouquets, buttonholes, dressing the draping and ‘welcome to the wedding’ stand and filling the outside entrance milk churns with an abundance of fresh flowers.

The chosen colour palette was vivid pink and soft pale pinks, interspersed with greens and whites. The Bride, Bridesmaids and Mother of the Bride painstakingly filled varying (empty!) gin bottles with fresh flowers which were dotted on all of the outside tables, along with four stand alone plant pots, teeming with flowers.

Inside the Stone Barn, they had created wonderfully elaborate vases filled with Zellie’s flowers, which had been freshly picked, just for them, the day before! These vases filled the alcoves, decorated the bar, cake table, entrance table and ceremony table too. No stone was left unturned when it came to making the most of the space on offer.

Martin Doyle was back in the Caterer’s kitchen as the chosen approved caterer for Sam and Sam’s wedding day. Creating canapes for the drinks reception, a tasty two course meal for their wedding breakfast, serving mini magnums (a real treat for the guests) with tea and coffee on the terrace for pudding and in the evening, laying on some sausage baguettes along with the wedding cake.

He and his lovely team looked after the guests excellently and ensured the couple’s requirements were met with the upmost care and attention to detail.

Our brilliant friends at Not Your Average I Do, provided large stand alone LOVE letters, and created the most beautiful cascade of white draping down the left hand side of the end wall in the Stone Barn. The florist tied the middle section of the draping with a stunning arrangement of flowers.

jessicajillphotography

The draping was in place from the start of the day, creating a romantic and pretty backdrop during the ceremony and wedding breakfast and evening reception.

Celebration Time!

For the evening’s festivities, the Bride and Groom hired our up-lighters, which effortlessly changed the ambiance of the dance floor space and, combined with the lights from the evening band, Move it Like Friday, really enhanced and transformed the Stone Barn from a formal dining space, to an impressive party room.

jessicajillphotography

In addition to the fantastic function band, Move it Like Friday, the Bride and Groom hired in a Photobooth from BPG Sound and Light (another recommended supplier of ours) which was positioned on the terrace and, just like the dancefloor, was a huge hit with their guests!

Our Thanks

We would very much like to thank Jessica Jill for all of these wonderful images from Sam and Sam’s happy wedding; we hope to see you back here for a future Hendall wedding in East Sussex.
