Matt and Henny were a last minute addition to the 2019 wedding season here at Hendall! We were thrilled to be able to help them and secure their wedding ceremony and reception here with us in Sussex, after their initial plans for having it at home, sadly fell through.
With just 8 weeks until the big day, panic struck as the all important license they had been hoping for was not granted. Matt’s step mother phoned us one sunny afternoon and within the hour both she and Matt were having their first viewing of Hendall… at this stage, our gorgeous Bride to be knew nothing of the current situation!
Luckily for them, their chosen date was still available and so, our plans for their ceremony and reception began in earnest.
All of their wedding suppliers had already booked, so first job on the list was to move them all to Hendall, with a bit of tweaking here and there!
It was an early start at Hendall as Henny and Matt had the most amazing decorations and flower installations that needed to be installed!
Bows Hire were booked to provide a huge blossom arch and ten blossom trees, with hanging candles and moss, as the centrepieces for the wedding breakfast tables. Additionally, they had installed a stunning fairy light canopy that stretched down the length of the Stone Barn and added uplighters within the barn too; it looked quite magnificent.
Charlotte at Infusion Flowers was her appointed florist and she created the most wonderful displays in our entrance milk churns and a floral arch/garland in one of the main windows which created a lovely backdrop to the ceremony. Pots of herbs filled the space and created an aisle ‘runner’ down to the main ceremony table.
As our bridal accommodation was not available, Henny’s wedding preparations took place at home, and she, her father and Bridesmaids were chauffeured to Hendall by Yogi, a vintage VW Campervan!
Henny and Matthew’s photographer was Sophia Veres – a Somerset based wedding photographer, who, i’m sure you’ll agree, is extraordinarily good! She had a second shooter with her which enabled them to capture so many different elements of their day!
Henny was walked down the aisle by her father, and their live guitarist, Gary Nock played some lovely acoustic music as they entered and during the signing of the register.
After the ceremony had finished, the guests were ushered on to the terrace and handed some bubble ‘wands’ to blow bubbles on the newlyweds as they arrived to join them! As we don’t permit confetti here, much the same as many other venues, bubbles work as a very sweet and effective alternative.
As drinks and canapes were enjoyed on the terrace and courtyard, the inside of the Stone Barn was completely transformed.
The blossom trees on the tables, were completely stunning and each table was named after a herb. Pots of the corresponding herbs decorated the wedding breakfast tables and gorgeous candle baubles hung from the branches of the blossom trees.
Jars of jam and schnapps were given as wedding favours which added to the overall table display; it all looked so amazing we were quite giddy with excitement!
Their wedding cake was a real beauty too; would you expect anything less at this stage? A four tiered, semi naked cake decorated with simple sprigs of flowers, sat atop a personalised wooden box.
Their sussex wedding cake maker was the talented Nicola of Bonney’s Cakery situated just a few miles away from Hendall.
Their chosen wedding caterer was Simon Desmond and he and his team did the most magnificent job of looking after them!
A surprise was in store for the Bride and Groom though… Matt’s step mother had booked singing waiters! These three ‘waiters’, masqueraded as part of Simon’s team and, just before pudding was served, they burst into song to the complete surprise of all the other guests and our happy couple.
These west end trained singers performed a handful of songs and the wedding party completely loved them.
In the evening, their DJ, Simon P, based just up the road from us in Crowborough was in charge of getting everyone on the dancefloor and he did just that!
Pizzas were served by the caterers as evening food and, in addition to homemade pizzas, a donut wall was also set up on a table filled with other sweets for guests to help themselves to; this was a real hit!
Nothing better than a pizza and then a donut after a few drinks and a boogie.
We loved (in case you couldn’t tell) hosting Henny and Matt’s Sussex wedding day here and we were so happy to help them create the most fantastic wedding day filled with blossom and love!
Huge thanks to Sophia Veres for all these stunning images of Henny and Matt’s wonderful Sussex wedding.
