Summer Countryside Wedding – From Lockdown Meet to Lake Como Proposal
Lauren and Liam’s Summer Countryside Wedding story began five years ago in London, in the most modern of meet-cutes, queuing at a takeaway spot just as the world was slowly reopening. Liam’s quick wit sparked conversation, and soon those simple dates – walks through the park and drinks on the common – became the start of something lasting.
Fast-forward to April 2024, and Liam pulled off a picture-perfect proposal during a rare sunny day on a boat in Lake Como. It was romantic, spontaneous, and entirely them.
Once back in the UK, Lauren – a self-professed planner and teacher – wasted no time diving into the world of wedding prep. With just a year to go, they focused on their ‘big five’: the church, the venue, caterer, photographer, and band. It set the perfect foundation for a wedding that would be both beautifully curated and deeply personal.
Why Hendall

For Lauren, Hendall wasn’t just another venue. Having grown up in Newick and worked behind the scenes with a local caterer, she had visited countless venues across East and West Sussex – and Hendall always stood out.
“The stone buildings, the stunning grounds, and the welcoming atmosphere always made a lasting impression – even from the perspective of the staff,” she recalls.
When it came time to choose their Summer countryside wedding venue, there was no hesitation. With their ceremony planned at Lauren’s local church in Newick, Hendall’s location made perfect sense. But more than that, it felt right. The privacy, the picturesque setting, and the warmth of the team sealed the deal. In fact, they didn’t even view any other venues.
Thoughtful Suppliers & Beautiful Details
Every choice Lauren and Liam made for their day was filled with intention – from the menu to the music. Photography was particularly important. Wanting to capture real, natural moments rather than formal poses, they were drawn to a photo album they saw at Hendall – the work of Danni Beach. As fate would have it, Nicola at Hendall also recommended her, and Danni proved to be the perfect fit. Blending seamlessly into the day, she delivered beautiful, candid memories they’ll treasure forever.
For catering, the couple selected Food Glorious Food from Hendall’s recommended supplier list. Their menu – burrata with tomatoes, slow-cooked lamb, and a deconstructed Eton Mess – was a hit with guests. The team went above and beyond, even helping with setup the night before and keeping everything running smoothly on the day.

Lauren and her mum handpicked the florals themselves, creating an elegant white-and-green theme that was both classic and relaxed. A close friend arranged the florals in bud vases and rustic milk churns, while Lauren’s dad built a unique seating plan frame from an old school board. From handmade station-themed table names to chilled mini bottles of homemade limoncello crafted by Liam’s relatives, every element had a story.

Guests travelled in style on a vintage London Routemaster bus, a nostalgic nod to Liam’s family history, while Lauren arrived at the church in a classic white Jaguar.

Let the Music Begin…
As day turned to evening, the celebration shifted into full party mode – just as Lauren and Liam had hoped. Their live band, Ember Nights, brought the energy they were after, keeping the dance floor full all night. Their first dance, set to a David Gray track performed live, was a moment of laughter, joy, and even a few spontaneous sing-alongs.
“We were pretty nervous – we’re not dancers! – but it ended up being one of our favourite parts of the day,” said Lauren. “We highly recommend filming everyone’s reactions… they were priceless!”
Final Thoughts
Lauren and Liam’s wedding was a true testament to thoughtful planning and heartfelt details. From a love that blossomed during uncertain times to a wedding set in a venue with personal significance, every moment was crafted with care.
We were honoured to be a part of their day at Hendall Manor Barns, and wish them nothing but continued joy and adventure as they start this new chapter together.

Thank you to everyone who made this such a wonderful Summer countryside wedding day.
