The Halloween love story at Hendall, our unique wedding venue in Sussex
When Christian’s friends went on holiday, he didn’t expect the night out that would change his life. Invited for a drink by his sister’s boyfriend, Kieron, he met Hannah (Billie’s maid of honour) who happened to be part of the same friendship group. They didn’t know many people that evening, so started chatting. A few lunch and coffee dates later, they were officially together by October 2018.
In March 2022, they bought their first home and soon after adopted their beloved dog, Tilly – who, of course, joined them on their wedding day. Fast forward to August 12th, 2023: they were sunflower picking (a yearly tradition) when Christian proposed. Knowing Billie wasn’t a fan of pink, he swapped the original ring box for a pumpkin one – a sweet touch that they later incorporated into their wedding ceremony.

Finding their Perfect Venue
Planning a wedding while both working full-time and completing qualifications must have been “intense,” for them but they felt it was all worth it. They knew they wanted Tilly there on the big day, so searched for dog-friendly wedding venues in Sussex and found Hendall on Bridebook.

From their very first meeting with Nicola, they could picture their wedding here. The barn’s character, the ability to stay on-site before and after, and having both ceremony and reception in one place made it the perfect unique wedding venue in Sussex for them. Our spreadsheet checklist even saved them from forgetting little details like table names!

A Subtle Halloween Theme

Billie & Christian always loved Halloween, so choosing 31st October for the wedding felt perfect – memorable without being over the top. The decorations included pumpkins, a tarot-card-inspired welcome sign, and skull drink dispensers; subtle, seasonal nods without being gimmicky.

Suppliers Who Made the Day
Photography – Leo Sharp Photography was Billie’s university tutor. Their pre-wedding shoot in Cornwall produced stunning beach sunset shots, and on the day, Leo and Kirstie were “incredible”, capturing genuine moments for the couple to treasure forever.
Videography – Luke and Ed from West Sussex Wedding Videos blended seamlessly into the day, producing a film that will make them smile for years to come.
Catering – John from Cashew Catering delivered an unforgettable vegan menu, from the tasting session to the heavenly wedding cake (yes, Billie had two slices).
Makeup – Becky Flynn created a soft, natural look that made Billie feel like herself – something she had been worried about. She was just as wonderful with her bridesmaids and mum.
Music – Instant Vibe, booked through Entertainment Nation, had everyone dancing until the last song – and even let Billie’s 4-year-old nephew play the drums!
Dress & Veil – Story of My Dress, not only found her dream gown but colour-matched her shoes to the custom embroidery on the veil.
