Summer Wedding in East Sussex

Alex and Tom’s Elegant and Sophisticated Summer Wedding in East Sussex – 02.08.2019

Alex and Tom were our first couple to marry in August, and did so on a sunny and still summers day. Their wedding was one of the finest examples of elegance, sophistication and class we have seen; a classic Summer wedding in East Sussex.

Wedding attire and preparations

The boys were dressed in smart navy three piece suits, with the palest pink ties and pockets squares. Tom wore a grey waistcoat paired with a navy blue polka dot tie and looked very dashing! Their button holes were a simple white rose head with a sprig of rosemary, wrapped with twine.

Alex and her bridesmaids were suitably primed and pampered in our on-site Bridal accommodation on the morning of the wedding day; the fab team consisted of the lovely Harriet Rainbow on make up and Liz Bower of Simply Beautiful Wedding Hair on…yep, you guessed it!

Alex looked completely spellbinding; a timeless classic! Her gown was purchased from Elizabeth King Designs in Hillendborough and was a complete knockout.

The ceremony, the cake and the decorations

The Stone Barn looked superb. Simple white bows were added to the trees (both internally and externally) along with the milk churns at the front entrance.

Inside the barn, the fab team from Bows Hire had installed a magnificent golden fairy light canopy, which twinkled away delicately for the duration of the day.

The ceremony was set up in the traditional way with a straight aisle with gorgeous flowers and ribbons on some of the chairs, and reserved seats at the front for those all important family members and close friends.

The blushing bride and her gorgeous bridesmaids entered the Stone Barn to the piano guys rendition of ‘a thousand years’. This was a piano and cello cover of this wedding favorite and sounded really super as an acoustic version! Alex was walked down the aisle by her proud younger brother, Angus.

As the Bride and groom were cheered back down the aisle as husband and wife, Justin Timberlake’s funky ‘Can’t stop the feeling’ played them out on to the terrace for drinks and canapes.

Their wedding cake was made by the hugely talented Harriet Caton and was a real beauty! We are very pleased to announce that Harriet is now one of our recommended cake designers and we are thrilled to bits to be working with her.

As guests and the bridal party enjoyed the summer sun on the terrace, the wedding caterers, Elizabeth Caton Food and Wine, transformed the space from Ceremony to Wedding breakfast. Round Tables filled the lower level of the Stone Barn with a couple of extra tables required on the upper level too.

The food, the flowers and the pics!

Lizzie and Charlie (of Elizabeth Caton) and their team, looked after everyone beautifully. They decorated the tables to the Bride and Groom’s request and added the wonderful tall candelabra centrepieces, expertly put together by their florist and firm favorite of ours, Laura from Fern Cottage Floristry.

The candles were lit and after a group photograph on the lawn, the guests made their way in to the Barn for their wedding breakfast. The Bride and Groom followed shortly afterwards, walking in to Rudimental’s ‘Feel the love’ and plenty of whoops and cheers from their guests.

Behind the lens was an old friend of theirs, Rebecca Hudson; her twin sister was a guest at the wedding and Rebecca was there throughout the day to capture all the beautiful, touching and funny moments of their day! She was utterly delightful and we have her to thank for all these brilliant photos.

Alex and Tom had made their own table plan board from hundreds of used wine bottle corks they had been saving ever since they first got together. It was so wonderfully effective and so lovely that they both worked to create something together to use for their wedding day.

What’s even better is they now have their very own, amazing cork board which they can use in their home for all their important documents; a perfect keepsake from their wedding day!

The wedding breakfast consisted of smoked salmon for starter, slow cooked beef served with dauphinoise potato and green beans for the main course, and their guests had a choice of either a lemon or chocolate pudding!

Once speeches had concluded the guests made their way back out in the summer sunshine for tea and coffee on the terrace, whilst the happy couple disappeared for a few more photographs in our lovely grounds.

The evening fun!

The couples first dance was to a ‘Sky full of Stars’ by Coldplay and their evening band then took to the floor. The Meddlers, a Sussex based wedding band,  were new to Hendall, but thoroughly enjoyable and kept everyone well entertained throughout the evening festivities.

On the Bar, the Groom had ordered 4 polypins of varying ales from the nearby 360 Degree Brewery. We just LOVE it when things are kept local! The caterers provided cheese, chutneys, bread, crackers and grapes along with wedding cake to sustain the guests for the remainder of the evening.

A wonderful sparkler send off for the Bride and Groom along the terrace concluded their summer wedding in East Sussex.

Big thanks must go to Rebecca Hudson for all these brilliant images she has captured of Tom and Alex’s wedding day!
