Hendall hosted another sell out fundraising event on 26th March. The author Simon Pearson gave an illustrated talk on the life of Squadron Leader Roger Bushell who masterminded The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III exactly 70 years ago. Simon’s book ‘The Great Escaper’ is a fascinating read and the launch of the paperback edition coincided with his talk here at Hendall. £900 was raised and the proceeds from the sale of tickets and signed copies of the book were given to the RAF Benevolent Fund. We were honoured to have amongst us Air Marshal Sir Fred Sowrey and Major Tom Beadle – the latter spent the closing stage of the war in Stalag Luft III. We are very keen to host other lectures, talks and presentations and our The Stone Barn at Hendall, with its superb acoustics, is an ideal venue for the purpose.
